Random thoughts and scenery in small rural towns gave me the idea for my New Acrylic Paintings Art Series Abandoned. I was on a road trip and noticed in the rural areas many curious things in the scenery that were abandoned. Many looked as if they had been abandoned many years ago. Broken down, faded, covered with rust and underbrush these various items sit year after year forgotten in time.
Although this subject matter may be thought of as depressing, I choose to think of it as an opportunity to learn more about the history and to remember and honor what they once were. I hope my viewers will not only enjoy this adventure with me but be provoked to share with others my art and thoughts on this subject.
My first painting in this series is a painting of an old abandoned truck. I found it sitting in front of a plant nursery in a town next to the community I live in. It is a curious sight and sits by itself facing the road. Rusted and broken down it still holds its original spirit and seems to echo the feeling that time waits on no one so make of it what you can.
The second painting in this series is one that has special meaning to me because it makes a statement about race, religion and lack of respect. A neighbor that lived across the street from me years ago told me that there were slave grave markers he had found on the property back of his backyard.
The third painting in my New Acrylic Paintings Art Series Abandoned.is of an abandoned general store and gas station I found in north Georgia. It still stands in an area that to this day still has not seen the influx of modern shopping including multi pump gas stations, and grocery stores. Stores in rural areas often then and in many years past and today are of multi service to meet the needs of their customers.
