Recently I told part in an online event, International Soul Art day. Women artists from all over the world joined together to create their own art projects using a part of their body depicted in the piece. It also involved watching other women create live on a Google hangout and using a worksheet to record your thoughts and processes. Most of the other artists worked from early that morning into the night, but I chose to first visit the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Ga before I began my artwork. It inspires me deeply to visit art galleries and my visit on that day was to the Frida and Diego exhibit.
I returned and dove into my project but it took me about a week and a half to finish it. I chose to include my hand in the OK position and my arm. The materials I chose to use clipped images from magazines and colored tissue paper. The background was prepared first and I used muted greens and yellow to prepare it first. There are several layers of alternate tissue paper and clipped images. I chose the clipped images that I included because I liked them for their old world and vintage look. The outline of my hand and arm is with lavender tissue paper and then I painted over the edges to get an even appearance.
I really enjoyed the experience both with my artwork , Collage with Tissue Paper and Cutouts, and the motivation of others working on similar projects. It is interesting to see how many different interpretations of the same theme were created.
Beautiful Jan! So wonderful to include you in International Soul Art Day along with thousands of people from around the world, you’re part of a vibrant creative community!
I love how you trusted your process and allowed it to unfold in such a magical way. All the rich textures of the collage and tissue paper feel like layers of stories awaiting to be discovered!
Thanks you so much, Laura. The event was wonderful and enjoyed participating so much. It was a great experience to be able to share in Soul art Day and see how other women were expressing their creativity on the same theme.
