Roundabout Abstract Collage Painting is a collage I created on stretched canvas using acrylic paints and cut pieces from a white paper table-cloth. I started the collage by using red, blue and white in small amounts of acrylic paint with very little water added. I then rubbed them into the canvas with a circular motion. After looking at the results, I decided to make the colors lighter by adding some off white. With the background established. I began cutting the white paper tablecloth. The application of the paper shapes is very tedious. For adhesive purposes I use Liquitex Matt Medium in the fluid instead of the paste form. I have learned from previous experiences that it is very important to decide on the placement ahead of time and lay all the pieces in their final resting place before beginning the gluing process. The paper table-cloth pieces are fragile. One coat of the matt medium is applied to the surface using very little or no water on the brush and only a thin coat. Next I apply the pieces of cut paper one at a time and then another coat of adhesive. Small air bubbles are a regular occurrence so much attention has to be made to smooth them out without tearing the fragile pieces of cut table-cloth (paper).

After the collage has dried, I go back a redefine the painted shapes and see what need to be enhanced with paint.  As a final preventative measure, 3 coats of the matt medium is applied to the entire collage to help seal it and protect the surface. Each coat is allowed to dry fully before the next coat is applied. I like the way everything turned out but wondered what I should name it. It occurred to me that the images of the white circles in this collage reminded me about the roundabouts in roads. I decided to name this painting with the same name.
