After purchasing a large stretched canvas, I decided to try a random painting technique.  What is a random painting technique?  Actually I took the liberty of coining that phrase myself to explain how I started this painting.  I have a large H frame easel that can be tilted at almost any angle.  I tilted it backwards so the paint would not roll down the canvas and then randomly squirted paint onto the canvas.

Next to develop the random painting technique further, I began to smooth out the paint in quick movements and not rinsing out my brush.  This was to encourage blending of colors.  I also added different brush strokes to make it more interesting.  I felt it was important to cover the canvas quickly and to go on impulse and not over think  the movements I was making with my brush. Only three colors of acrylic paint were used, deep crimson red, yellow ochre and unbleached white. By limiting  my palette, I felt the chance of having the blend of colors would be a more simple and harmonious process.

The process was very quick.  I chose to use random movements and covered the stretched canvas quickly.  I wanted to not think too much about the brush strokes and movement.  This way I think you can more likely achieve a fresh look that is not too overworked.  The abstract painting with the random painting technique became Abstract X24.
