World Watercolor Month, July 2016 is a project I have been working on this summer. Last summer in June I completed a abstract painting searches each day in the month of June. This year I tried to do something different.
Charlie O’Shields started World Watercolor Month just a year ago. He had not been working on his art for 20 years and decided to come up with an idea that would help him practice regularly on his watercolor artwork. In just a years’ time it has grown tremendously with many artists from all over the world posting their daily artwork on the group’s Facebook page. Groups like this are not only good practice for creating a portfolio, but also educational in the aspect of viewing many other artists all over the world with all levels of experience.
In all honesty, I have not posted a new painting every day this month of July. I found that it is much easier to paint an abstract painting per day than a watercolor painting. It takes me longer and I also am in an illustration group where I post regularly so it is difficult time wise. I learned a lot, mostly about the quality of watercolor paper. I try to be thrifty with my art supplies and although the watercolor tube paints last a long time, the paper can be very expensive. I never did find a list of prompts for the month so I just painted whatever I wanted to paint.
World Watercolor Month, July 2016 was a great experience for me this year. I enjoyed creating my watercolor paintings and enjoyed seeing all the artwork of the other participants. All the artwork shown here is for sale and is being added to the gallery/store. This sometimes takes me awhile to list but you can contact me on the form below if interested and/ or you have a comment.
