I am constantly trying to think of new and interesting projects for my paintings, so this time my idea was an acrylic picture painting puzzle. I found some small stretched canvases that were on sale in a pack of four. I thought that an interesting project would be to paint them separately as a picture that would be a painting in its own right but also form a larger painting when assembled and hung together. Lately I have been wanting to work on some paintings about nature and felt like this would be a good subject for this project. My reference photo was a photo that I took at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Although the flowers resemble gladioli, they are actually a variety of orchids.
This was a fun project and forced me to think of the design of each painting and how they would all fit together as one painting also. This includes a balance of color and design elements. it made me stop and think about the composition even more than I would have usually. Acrylic Picture Puzzle Paintings was a positive learning experience.
