The Garden of Nancy Tees 1

The Garden of Nancy Tees 1

Two weeks  ago I had my first experience with plein air painting with the Lilburn Garden Tour of Homes 2014.  The garden tour was the project of the Lilburn Women’s Club with participation of the Lilburn Arts Alliance of which I am a member. I have painted outside before but  must admit I usually prefer to be inside if the weather conditions are not favorable.  I was assigned the home of Nancy Tees.  She was very accommodating and had a beautiful garden.  I set up under her deck so I would be out of the sun.  Painting from 9 AM till 2PM was enjoyable and I was thrilled that the weather and heat was comfortable. This allowed me to concentrate on my watercolor painting.  My only regret was not using my watercolor block for the painting instead of mixed media sketchbook paper, but the painting survived and I will have prints made and available.

I worked on the above painting the entire time I was there but made many other photos so I could use as references. Everyone was surprised about the large turnout for the Lilburn Garden Tour. Art in the garden is definitely  a positive experience.
