I continue to want to try different approaches to my paintings and especially through my abstract paintings and collage.  sometimes I think of the idea randomly as I did with this painting.  Other times it might stem from a picture I have seen or something that has influenced my ideas in other ways.  I had a college art professor that one time stated in class that all artists are influenced in their artistic expression with things they have seen or experienced and especially in the last 24- 48 hours.

The first thin layers of color

When I began to apply paint to this canvas, I did not have any idea where I was going with it, but I did know that I wanted to apply very thin layers of paint and build them up gradually.  This is the first time i had ever tried this with very thin layers of paint.

I found as I continued the process that there were several thing to consider.  First of all, I realized that you had to use very thin layers and not use too many strokes or it would remove the paint from the surface.  It is much more tedious than using thicker acrylic paint because you have to paint a little bit and then let it dry and this process has to be repeated over and over until the desired effect is achieved.

Over all I really enjoyed this creative challenge with Abstract X15.  So much so that I have decided to take it a step further and continue it  with my next painting.
